Hi there. My name is Olivia and I’ll be interning with The Collective this summer. I’ll be working with the co-directors to explore the inner workings of a dance company and immerse myself in the Baltimore dance scene. My dance studio director started The Collective in 1999, I’ve performed in the Open Marley show, and I also took Sunday classes with The Collective in high school, so I am really looking forward to be working with a dance company I grew up around.
I just finished my sophomore year at Virginia Commonwealth University as a Dance & Choreography major. This year I had the opportunity to dance in student and faculty works and even perform at the 2018 ACDA Mid-Atlantic South Gala Performance in March. Earlier this year I attended American Dance Festival’s New York City Winter Intensive where I investigated the presence of the African diasporic in our Western modern dance practices. In June I will be studying in DC with Company E where I will be learning repertory and performing a new work coordinated with the Spanish Embassy.
To help you better get to know me, below are five facts about me:
- I love hot yoga.
- Frank Ocean is my favorite artist.
- I have a pet cat named Biji.
- Ice cream is my favorite dessert, but I am lactose intolerant.
- I am the youngest of three girls.
